🔍 How to spot the original
  • Trap: bad paint ≠ fake: Magmar quirk: even ORIGINALS have mediocre paint — collectors describe it as 'acceptable to utter crap', and the community has never produced a legit Magmar with perfect paint. Do NOT judge it on paint alone (either way).
  • Fakes WITH stamp: check depth: Magmar bootlegs usually CARRY a Tomy stamp. The difference is DEPTH: on a fake the engraving loses edge and depth (especially toward the last letters). Always add the seam test.
  • Very HTF: cheap = fake: Alongside Electrode it's the hardest standard Kanto ('Very HTF', noted 'tons of bootlegs'). A cheap, available, or generic-lot Magmar is almost certainly fake.
