PokéFig Score (PFS)

How we measure a figure's rarity — with a method, not by eye. Based on how collecting does it (coins, cards, sneakers, Funko).

Value = Scarcity × Demand × Condition

Rarity isn't value: something scarce that nobody wants is worth little. The catalog PFS combines Scarcity + Demand; Condition (sealed/loose) applies to your copy.

The three axes

Scarcity (supply)

Anchored in distribution, not finish: mass retail < gashapon < magazine < store exclusive < promo/non-sale < lottery/prize < documented low run.

Demand (desire)

Species popularity (legendary/chase), sought finish (shiny/gold), real-collector nominations and —soon— actual sale price.

Condition (grade)

Sealed vs loose (sealed premium). Applies to your copy, not the catalog entry. Future: box grade.

The Demand axis is built from community votes. Pick between pairs of figures and help us sharpen the ranking.

The tiers

Across 10,968 cataloged figures:

CommonMass retail, easy to find.5,385
UncommonRetail with less availability, gashapon or minor variant.4,305
ScarceHard to find: short line, discontinued or low-demand promo.746
RareLimited distribution or high-demand species; rarely surfaces.38
Very rareNon-retail and scarce: prizes/promos and lottery shinies (~1,000 units), run > 100 or unconfirmed.94
GrailThe peak, exclusive: documented run ≤100 units (or never-released phantom). BREAK (5 sets), Gold Pikachu (10), 80-winner prizes.9
Prototype (unconfirmed)A status, not a rarity level: an alleged/rumored piece whose existence is NOT confirmed (prototype, factory sample, unverified photo).1

What makes a GRAIL

Grail is EXCLUSIVE to the ultra-scarce: ≤100 documented units or a phantom piece. Expensive or “special” isn't enough — a $25 magazine clear is NOT a grail, and even a ~1,000-unit lottery shiny is 'very rare', not grail.

  1. 1. Documented run of ≤100 units — sourced, not estimated.
  2. 2. Or a phantom piece: announced but never released (0 in circulation).
  3. 3. Examples: BREAK (5 sets), Gold Pikachu (10 winners), 80-winner prizes. The ~1,000-unit lottery shinies are NOT grail — they're 'very rare'.

Confidence level

Each figure states whether its rarity is hard data or an estimate — we never present an estimate as fact.

Frequently asked questions

What is the PokéFig Score (PFS)?

It's a 0–100 rarity index PokéFig assigns to each figure. It measures rarity = scarcity × demand × condition, using Bayesian statistics over the distribution type (retail, gashapon, promo, prize) plus real sales evidence. 10,968 figures are scored.

What is a “grail” figure?

It's the top PFS tier: pieces with a documented run of ≤100 units (Japanese lottery prizes, prototypes, ultra-limited promos). 9 figures in the catalog are marked as grail.

Is the PFS a price or investment advice?

No. The PFS measures rarity, not price. When PokéFig shows prices they are a dated reference estimate from real sales, never investment advice.
