PokéFig Score (PFS)

How we measure a figure's rarity — with a method, not by eye. Based on how collecting does it (coins, cards, sneakers, Funko).

Value = Scarcity × Demand × Condition

Rarity isn't value: something scarce that nobody wants is worth little. The catalog PFS combines Scarcity + Demand; Condition (sealed/loose) applies to your copy.

The three axes

Scarcity (supply)

Anchored in distribution, not finish: mass retail < gashapon < magazine < store exclusive < promo/non-sale < lottery/prize < documented low run.

Demand (desire)

Species popularity (legendary/chase), sought finish (shiny/gold), real-collector nominations and —soon— actual sale price.

Condition (grade)

Sealed vs loose (sealed premium). Applies to your copy, not the catalog entry. Future: box grade.

What makes a GRAIL

A grail needs two things at once: very few exist and people chase them. Expensive or “special” isn't enough: a $25 magazine clear is NOT a grail, a piece everyone wants but that's often for sale is 'popular', and one announced but never released is a curiosity.

  1. 1. Very few: a documented run of 1,000 or fewer (winners, sets or units, whatever the source says), with no over-distribution, reissue or later retail release.
  2. 2. And people chase them: closed sales of $150+, a contested auction with 20+ bids, or two different collectors calling it a grail.
  3. 3. No sales required: if the run is 100 or fewer (Golden BREAK, 5 sets; Gold Pikachu, 10 winners), or if it's a lottery or prize you couldn't buy, with up to 5,000 winners. There, not showing up for sale IS the scarcity; only explicit evidence of low demand lowers it.

What is the PokéFig Score (PFS)?

It's a 0–100 rarity index PokéFig assigns to each figure. It measures rarity = scarcity × demand × condition, using Bayesian statistics over the distribution type (retail, gashapon, promo, prize) plus real sales evidence. 15,010 figures are scored.

What is a “grail” figure?

It's the top PFS tier: pieces with very few in existence (documented run of 1,000 or fewer) that collectors chase. A run of 100 or fewer, or a Japanese lottery of up to 5,000 winners, counts even without sales. 21 figures in the catalog are marked as grail.

Is the PFS a price or investment advice?

No. The PFS measures rarity, not price. When PokéFig shows prices they are a dated reference estimate from real sales, never investment advice.
