Zukan vs Bandai Kids vs MonColle: which brand is best for each Pokémon

Every Pokémon figure brand has its own character. Choosing "the best" for a Pokémon depends on what you're looking for: detail, coverage, or price.

Zukan

Scale and detail figures, encyclopedia-style, often featuring the full evolution line on a single base. They tend to be the quality benchmark when they exist — that's why they top the list of substitutes when Tomy didn't make the piece.

• Pros: detail, correct scale, evolution lines.
• Cons: pricier, don't cover the whole Pokédex.

Bandai Pokémon Kids

Rubber/PVC figures that are more chibi, across hundreds of series. Huge in coverage (they reach Pokémon that other brands skipped) and cheap to collect.

• Pros: massive coverage, low price, ideal for filling out the Pokédex.
• Cons: chibi style (not to scale), simpler detail.

Tomy MonColle

The standard for "the Pokémon figure": consistent size, solid sculpting, the most iconic line.

• Pros: the classic look, consistency, huge market.
• Cons: doesn't cover the whole Pokédex (see Tomy gaps).

The practical rule

• Did Tomy make it? Start with the Tomy.
• Didn't they? The best substitute is usually Zukan > Bandai Kids > Jakks > …
• Looking for detail/scale? Zukan. Coverage and price? Bandai Kids.
