PokéShiny Finds
Gyarados
I suspect this Pokémon to be the true identity of a dragon written of in ancient texts, which claimed that it razed an entire village with white-hot beams from its maw.
Origin & trivia
- Name origin
- Its Japanese name, Gyarados, evokes a violent serpentine creature.
- Design origin
- It embodies the Chinese legend of the fish that climbs the Dragon Gate (Long men) and turns into a dragon — hence it evolves from Magikarp.

AULDEY variant: a legitimate Tomy license for Asia (same mold, "Auldey" stamp, slightly different details in eyes/fingers). NOT a bootleg.
RED GYARADOS (色違い / "Akai Gyarados") — factory red repaint of the classic Gyarados mold, on its blue wave base. It is indeed from the HG/SS era (the red Gyarados from the Lake of Rage), but NO MonColle figure of gold Magikarp exists as a pair for that campaign: the gold+red pair people remember are the Pokémon Center PLUSH toys (Dec 2009). The only MonColle gold Magikarp is the 2005 grail (grail-gold-magikarp). Rarity: it's the "most common" Tomy shiny (Shiny Garden); the community 1st-gen guide marks it HTF (hard to find). 💰 References: a 色違い lot including this Gyarados closed at ¥75,000 (~$500 USD) (Yahoo, 2026); MonColle Gyarados max ¥38,000 (~$253 USD). Gyarados from the "コイキング・ギャラドスセット" (Koiking·Gyarados Set, 2 MS-size figures, together with Magikarp) set. ¥1,430 (税込), release 29-Aug-2026. Detected by the monitor 2026-07-20; curated against the official lineup 2026-07-20 (product page magikarp_gyarados_set).
American red-lettering «Pokémon Figure Collection» blister card, with the dex number on the back. ©2001, «Distributed by Pokémon USA, Inc. Manufactured by Tomy». Sold at US retail (K·B Toys price sticker) and as singles on pokemoncenter.com at $3.95-4.95. Carries a Tomy JAN barcode, not a Pokémon USA UPC.
White stripe box (1-151, different manufacturing run). Recolor documented between manufacturing runs (tomydatabase catalogs it as a "color-tone variant"). The white stripe corresponds to one of those runs — the exact paint difference is a contribution from the physical collection (the site catalogs the existence, not the detail).
