The Tomy Gaps: The Pokémon Tomy Never Made (and Their Best Substitute)

The data point no other database has — because Tomy didn't make the whole Pokédex.

There's a truth almost no guide addresses head-on: Tomy never made a figure for the entire Pokédex. Hundreds of Pokémon remain without a Tomy figure. And that's exactly where anyone chasing "one figure per Pokémon" gets stuck.

The problem

If you only collect Tomy, sooner or later you'll run into Pokémon that Tomy simply never made — especially in later generations, forms, and regionals. It's not that you haven't found it yet: it doesn't exist.

The solution: the best official substitute

For almost every Pokémon without a Tomy, there's an official figure from another brand that covers it better. The collector's usual order of preference is:

Zukan → Bandai Kids → Jakks → … → (last resort) bootleg

PokéFig flags that figure as the best substitute for that gap. That way you can build a complete figure Pokédex knowing exactly which piece goes in each slot Tomy left empty, and from which brand.

The two collecting modes

This is what defines how you run your collection:

  • Pure Tomy set: only what Tomy actually made. You need to know where it ends.
  • Complete Pokédex: one figure per Pokémon, the best one available. You need to know who fills each gap.

PokéFig has a switch between these two modes, with a NO-TOMY badge on pieces Tomy never produced, so you never mistake a substitute for a real Tomy.

Why this is the most valuable data point

Anyone can list you the Tomy figures that exist. The hard part — and the only useful one — is answering: *"for this Pokémon Tomy didn't make, what's the best official figure to substitute it?"* That cross-reference, by Pokémon and by brand, is what no other database has.
