What do I want to collect?
By Pokémon, generation, brand or era. Pick the axis and the whole catalog reorders around it — including the switch between pure Tomy set and full Pokédex.
What brand and line is this figure?
Maker, line and year are three different clues and get mixed up constantly. Every brand has its page with its lines split out, and MonColle has its own numbering decoder.
How old is it?
Who held the license when explains why a figure exists at all. The full maker chronology, from Tomy 1997 to today, overlapping eras included.
Is it original or a bootleg?
Never on one sign alone. Stamp, seam, paint, weight and smell — plus the awkward cases, like bootlegs that DO carry a Tomy stamp. With a confidence level per clue, not verdicts.
I don't even know what I'm holding

Does a figure of this Pokémon even exist?
Tomy never made the whole Pokédex. Here are the ones it skipped and, for each, the best official figure that does exist to fill the hole. This data exists nowhere else.
What should I pay?
Rarity measured with a method — not by eye — and reference prices with their date and sample size. Never investment advice: context so you don't overpay.
Where do I hunt for it?
Each channel is good for something different, and the search formula changes with where you're looking. Includes the Japanese terms sellers use for the rare stuff.
Where am I going to put it?
The shelf is part of the collection and gets decided BEFORE it becomes a problem: real depth, cubby size, dust and light. Including the sizing trap that catches almost everyone.
How do I keep track of what I own?
Date, brand, condition, what you paid and where you bought it — the same things you'd write on paper, but adding themselves up: total invested, what's missing, and how each subcollection is going.
One warning no tool replaces
No single clue decides on its own, and neither does this site. There are copies so good they're practically identical to the original; when you've checked everything and nothing quite confirms or denies, what protects you is the seller's reputation, not the checklist. And if you're meeting someone to see a figure, do it in a public place.
